A Perfect Harmony between materiality and planting in Whitehall, Co Dublin

The intention here was to rationalise the irregular site of this house, creating a new arrangement for a private and usable family dining area to the front of the house, allowing the back to be designated as a tranquil lounge area.

The stepping stones were aligned with the gap in the walls and planting was integrated into the gaps to allow for a harmonious co-existence of hard and soft landscape. Contrasting materials have been used to create a dynamic space. Flag stones are used to designate the functional areas, such as the dining space, while cobble has been preferred for the areas of transition, like the stepping stones, pathway and border.

Shade planting is used in this design, with interest coming from the varying textures and tones.
