This garden located in inner city Dublin has been transformed into a contemporary paradise. It boasts a steel pergola, polished concrete fire pit and an outdoor dining area. The client wanted to capture a Balinese theme in her back garden while still maintaining a contemporary and sophisticated look.
Planting was a really important element of this project. In order to portray the tropical feel of Bali, large foliage plants and brightly coloured perennials were used. These are accompanied with a number of shrubs and ornamental grasses to enforce the sleek, contemporary look. Feature trees such as Acer Gerisum provide areas of focus and enclosure, while also adding winter interest and colour. Planting is brought right up to the home, with a large focal planted island.
The whole garden is enclosed by 6×3 wood panels which are boarded with linear non running bamboo hedges. These will be up-lit and give a stunning effect at night.
The garden is brought together with a central bubbling pot water feature which projects a feeling of calm and serenity into the landscape. It will also provide subtle auditory stimulation.
The material palette of the design is simple to allow the drama of the scale to unfold.
This contemporary oriental garden provides the perfect plaza for outdoor dining, relaxing and evening entertaining.
