Contemporary Garden Design Meets Traditional Cottage in Portlaoise

The design intention for this project was to give definition and screening to the original cottage. The driveway layout facilitates a private garden for sitting out in the evening. Fencing and planting are used to screen the garden space from the parked cars.

A focal backdrop is created using upright panels, which are surrounded by mixed perennial planting. An otherwise side lawn is transformed into a beautiful lounge space for the whole family to enjoy. This sunken space is surrounded by a beautiful mix of perennials and grasses.

A barbequed plinth pergola is custom designed to fit between existing trees, giving shelter and privacy to the cooking and dining area.

A morning coffee spot, sitting just off the pergola, is accessible from the kitchen slider doors for everyday use, carefully positioned to make the most of the morning sun.

Lighting brings the structural planting and feature wall to life at dusk.
