Playing with Perspective in Rathfarnham

The design intent for this garden was to draw you out to the elongated, linear garden. The triangular frame pulls the eye down the garden and creates a sense of arrival to the lounge area, where the best of the evening sun can be enjoyed.

Multiple materials are used throughout the design to create interest, from stepping stones to pebbles and porcelain. The pebbles also provide an acoustic quality, the audible effect changes throughout the space. Mosaic tile is used to break up the space, it is used on the existing wall and again to clad the raised bed.

Accents of purple are used (lavender, agapanthus and verbena) to contrast with the evergreen structure throughout.

The designer has played with perspective in this garden to create an illusion of more space. The eye travels around the space and not just down to the end. Features have been angled off centre, forcing the eyes to move from side to side.
